(Apart from the fact that it received zero promotion and so virtually no one knew it existed.) So many great tracks on that CD and I bet many people, even fans, have never heard them. I love Pop Trash, Playing with Uranium, Starting to Remember and Someone Else Not Me in particular, but most of it is really good. I could perhaps live without Hallucinating Elvis (and the live version was a bit scary) but I don't begrudge it a place on the CD. The only thing I think let Pop Trash down was the video for Someone Else Not You. It was just a bit too disconnected. I wonder whether we will ever hear any of these tracks live again? I expect not.

I didn't like the video for Someone Else Not Me either. Yeah, doubt they'll play much of this album live again, but I guess you should never say never!

When I put it on, my mind wanders and I end up trying to recall what any of the songs sound like... I think it's their weakest album, and while some of the tracks may be ok, on the whole, it has no emotion/energy for me.. I couldn't even name the tracks on the album, and to be honest I think I have listened to it no more than 5 times, ever... "Come to Heaven Silva Halo"

The only song I dislike is "Hallucinating Elvis". Favourites include "Someone Else Not Me", "Playing With Uranium", "Pop Trash Movie" and "Lady Xanax". It's cohesive and sounds lovely throughout. Posts: 47 (08/07/08 22:49:14) Honorary Aussie Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	One of the criticisms I've heard over the years is that 'Simon didn't write the lyrics' which sounds a bit stupid to me as I don't judge a song by the author of the lyrics. The fact that Simon didn't write most of the lyrics doesn't stop me from liking it more than something he did write. (Sometimes I think the 'tard' factor is still too strong and I can't tell if people genuinely prefer the original lineup, or if they immaturely reject post 1986 Duran (especially the Warren phase) because it's not the band from their teen years. But I digress... I think it has some great songs, but I don't like the way it was produced, it's a bit too heavy. The main reason why it's not among my favourites has more to do with the fact that I know what the situation was like when it was written, and it makes me sad. But I would much rather hear some track from Pop Trash live than most of RCM.

I was so excited listening to it years ago. Go Duran!! I want to listen to it now but there is so much Duran I want to hear!! That wretched boat in the Rio video. God, I hated that boat. Wrecking my Anthony Price suit with all those dreadful waves splashing everywhere. Really! Tie the damn things up and have a couple of cocktails on them!

I keep it in my car, and crank up 'Last Day On Earth' when driving. Also love Someone Else Not Me, Mars Meets Venus, Lava Lamp, Playing With Uranium.... When I heard it in 2000, I had no idea of what was going on in Duran land - only that I was going to be in LA when they were, and I got to see them live again. I think that is why I like the songs so much.. damn I have some hot photos of Simon from these concerts too. I also heard this album long before Medazzaland, which is perhaps why I dont like Medazzaland as much.

Sure, Hallucinating Elvis is a bit cringeworthy, but Starting to Remember is an absolute gem, and The Sun Doesn't Shine Forever is a beautiful ballad. Love Mars Meets Venus and Last Day on Earth, too. Who cares if Simon didn't write the lyrics? A good album is a good album; period.

Playing with Uranium is SCARY (A kid making a neuclear weapon in his basement? True fact folks!) And WTF is SENM in SPANISH all about for gawd's sake? I drove 100kms the day that it was released in Oz and bought every copy I could get my hands on........sad I know. Especially when I already got it a week before from amazon.com. I remember listening to it on the cd walkman (remember those?) when I caught the bus up to Echuca to see Ad when my car was a bit dodgy one time - unfortunately it came out about the same time that the shit hit the fan with Connor's dad, so it's always been a bit 'tainted' (as songs tend to remind me of a certain place/time in my life). Anyway, I think it's a good album, not the greatest ever.......I prefer Medazzaland if I was to choose between the two 'totally dark DD times' albums (i.e: smallest lineup/least media exposure/band considered by many to be irrelevant). The brightest star on the Walk of Fame.........

Thanks for all your replies which were really interesting to read. Some of the musicianship on Pop Trash is truly wonderful. Starting to Remember and Pop Trash stand out for me there. I saw a live recording of Pop Trash on You Tube a little while ago and it brought it all back to me and then some. And the blackness of Playing with Uranium. Grungy and as good as anything of the time. Somebody Else Not Me I love, but find terribly depressing. As for it in French and Spanish...hmmm, no explanation. I don't think we were "paying" for those tracks. I think I can understand why people don't relate to it because DD were in difficult times then, but on the other hand, I also think it shows tremendous depth and maturity that they recorded something very credible during that phase and emerged at the other end. It is the Duran of a different, melancholy mood and sometimes I really appreciate this, because sometimes I have these moods. There is a Duran Duran song for every moment I'm sure. And if Nick was a greater influence at this point, and Warren for that matter, then so be it. I also think some of the early 90s live concerts, which I've watched a bit of lately, are in some ways an even darker time for DD. The reinvention of some of the classics was just a little bit hard to take. (Specifically it was 1993 concert from Cologne that I watched. ) In contrast I feel that the Pop Trash era had more integrity and honesty to it. I am glad, however, that it didn't end there. I am sure at the time some of us thought it would. Even after hearing about the reunion it was a long time before it happened in a way that we could relate to, with the Australian tour and then Astronaut. I view the catalogue post 2000, as being upbeat and inspirational, which is why I could never diss RCM. I love it. Whatever happens next, for me the guys are currently on a high. Sadly, too few people know about it. (As for CD Walkmans, is it too uncool to admit that I used one of these on my recent trip overseas.... I just don't have time to make use of an iPod in normal daily life. I did feel a little bit out of date each time I pulled it out though..)
