Banyo's Kymberley ...... is a long time fan, with a bedroom wall still adorned with a Duran Duran poster. "I have been a fan since the early days in the 80s. I'm the third of four girls and my sisters were fans. I was introduced by them" she said.
"The band kind of lost me during the 90s but, when they got back together in 2003 I got back into it and since then, I've had a lot of fun rediscovering them."
Kymberley will be among the crowd when the Globe Theatre stages a Duran Duran 80s night on March 28 screening Sing Blue Silver, a documentary that followed Duran Duran on their 1983-85 World Tour.
She'll then travel to see the band at the Gold Coast's V Festival before following them to Adelaide for their April 1 show, tickets to which are fetching $120 each.
Now aged XX, Kym said there was still a strong fan base nostalgic for 80s music, however Duran Duran had more to offier a new wave of fans. "I don't think they'll make it back up to the crazy heights of the 80s, but they have a solid base that has stayed with them and I'd hope with the new album that came out last year, they'll pick up some new fans along the way" she said.
"I think there is an enormous amount of affection out there for the band"
The Duran Duran 80s Night will be held at the Globe Theatre, Fortitude Valley on March 28. The event is 18+ and tickets cost $10. Visit www.kristianfletcher.com.
